How long does scaffolding take to erect?

Most domestic scaffolds are up within half a day to a full day. A straightforward chimney scaffold typically takes two to three hours. Larger or more complex structures on commercial properties can take a full day or more. We'll give you a realistic timescale when we quote.

How much does scaffolding cost?

Cost depends on the size of the scaffold, the duration of hire and the complexity of the access required. A basic chimney scaffold in East Yorkshire typically starts from a few hundred pounds. Do I need planning permission for scaffolding?

In most cases, no. Scaffolding on private property doesn't normally require planning permission. However, if the scaffold extends over a public pavement or highway, you'll need a licence from the local authority. We can advise on this when we quote your job.

Is scaffolding safe?

Yes, when erected by a qualified scaffolder. All Baxter Scaffolding operatives hold current CISRS cards and all our scaffolds are built in compliance with TG20 guidance and the Working at Height Regulations 2005. We carry out a handover inspection before any contractor uses the structure.

What's included in a scaffolding hire?

Erection, all tubes, boards and fittings, the hire period agreed at quote stage, and dismantling and collection at the end. Any changes to duration or configuration may affect the final cost — we'll always tell you in advance.

What happens if my job overruns?

Just call us. We can extend the hire period at an agreed day rate. We'd rather you have the scaffold in place until the work is properly finished than leave a contractor working unsafely.

Can scaffolding go up in winter?

Yes. We work throughout the year. In high wind conditions we may need to pause erection for safety, but scaffolding itself isn't affected by cold weather. We'll keep you updated if weather causes any delay.

Does my neighbour need to give permission?

If the scaffold needs to go on your neighbour's land or over their boundary, you'll need their agreement. The Party Wall Act may also apply in some cases. We can advise on this at the site visit stage.

How do I know the scaffold is safe to use?

We carry out a handover inspection when the scaffold is complete. We can provide a handover certificate on request. If you have any concerns about the structure during the hire, call us immediately on 07860 735018.

Can scaffolding damage my garden or driveway?

We take precautions to protect driveways and lawns — using base plates and sole boards to spread the load. In most cases there is no damage. If you have particular concerns about your garden or driveway, mention it when you call and we'll discuss the options.

Do you provide insurance documents?

Yes. We can provide copies of our public liability insurance certificate on request. Most contractors and project managers require this before work starts on site.

How far in advance do I need to book?
