Temporary Roofs in Hull and East Yorkshire
When a roof is stripped for a full re-roofing project, the interior of the property is exposed to the weather. In Yorkshire — where a dry week in summer isn't guaranteed — that's a serious risk. A temporary roof structure installed over the scaffold provides complete weather protection throughout the works, allowing the roofing contractor to work safely regardless of conditions.
When is a temporary roof needed?
Complete re-roofing where all tiles and battens are stripped
Rafter replacement or structural roof repairs
Major flat-to-pitched roof conversions
Heritage or listed building reroofs where full strip is required
Any project where the roof will be fully open to weather for more than a day
How a temporary roof works
The scaffold is erected around the building in the normal way. A series of ridge beams, purlins and sheeting rails are then fitted above the roof line, and industrial-grade polythene or aluminium sheeting is fixed over them to create a weatherproof covering. The contractor works inside the temporary roof as if under cover.
Benefits of a temporary roof
Keeps the interior dry throughout the works
Allows roofing to continue in wet weather — no costly weather delays
Protects exposed timbers, insulation and any vulnerable interior contents
Often required by insurers for weather-related insurance claims
