Scaffolding FAQs

Scaffolding FAQs

Answers to the questions we hear most often from homeowners and tradespeople across Hull and East Yorkshire.

How long does it take to erect scaffolding?

A standard domestic scaffold normally takes half a day to one full day. Larger or more complex structures take longer.

How much does scaffolding cost?

Costs vary depending on size, height, number of elevations and hire duration. We provide free, itemised quotes — call 07860 735018.

Do I need planning permission for scaffolding?

In most cases, no. If scaffolding extends over a public highway or pavement, a licence from Hull City Council or East Riding of Yorkshire Council is usually required. We can advise and handle this.

How long can scaffolding stay up?

There is no legal time limit. Most domestic hires run for two to eight weeks.

Is scaffolding safe for the public around it?

Yes, when erected correctly. All our scaffolds comply with BS EN 12811 standards and the Working at Height Regulations 2005.

Can I stay in my house while the scaffolding is up?

Yes. Scaffolding does not require you to vacate your home.

Will scaffolding damage my property?

When erected correctly, scaffolding should not cause damage. We use appropriate base plates and tube protection where needed.

Do I need to inform my neighbours?

It is good practice. For scaffolding that requires access across a neighbour's land, their permission is required.

Are your scaffolders qualified?

Yes. We hold CISRS qualifications — the recognised competency standard for the scaffolding industry.

Are you insured?

Yes. We carry full public liability and employer's liability insurance. Certificates available on request.

Can you erect scaffolding over a public path or road?

Yes, with the appropriate local authority licence. We can manage this process for you.
